500kW Battery Storage Solution
Behind-the-Meter Energy Optimisation for Manufacturing
January 2026
Dear Acme Manufacturing Team,
Thank you for the opportunity to present this proposal for Simtricity's battery storage optimisation pilot project.
We're excited to demonstrate how your 500kW battery system can generate significant revenue through wholesale market trading, while also reducing your site's energy costs.
Simtricity proposes a 3-month pilot to prove the commercial value of your battery storage system. We will connect your battery to our proven Flux control platform, enabling wholesale electricity market trading via our existing Axle Energy integration.
What is Behind-the-Meter Storage?
Behind-the-meter (BTM) battery storage sits on your side of the electricity meter, connected directly to your facility's electrical system. This positioning allows the battery to reduce your energy costs by storing cheap power and using it during expensive periods, while also earning revenue by trading on wholesale electricity markets when you don't need the power yourself.
About Acme Manufacturing
Acme Manufacturing is a UK-based manufacturing facility with significant energy demand. With electricity costs representing a major operational expense, Acme has invested in a 500kW battery storage system to optimise energy usage and reduce costs. This pilot will unlock the full potential of that investment.
The Opportunity
Your 500kW battery system is already installed and operational. The question is: how do you maximise its value? Simply charging from solar or overnight rates is just the beginning. With the right control platform and market access, your battery can generate real revenue — not just cost savings.
The key insight: Your battery has value beyond backup power. When connected to wholesale markets, it can earn money by responding to grid needs — charging when power is abundant and cheap, discharging when it's scarce and expensive.
How Battery Storage Creates Value
Your battery can generate value in three complementary ways:
1. Peak Shaving
Discharge during expensive peak periods (typically 4-7pm) to reduce your maximum demand charges. For manufacturers, these demand charges can represent 20-40% of the electricity bill.
2. Time-of-Use Arbitrage
Charge when electricity is cheap — overnight, during solar peaks, or when wholesale prices dip — and use that stored energy when prices are high.
3. Wholesale Trading
Additional revenue from Axle's flexibility markets — trading energy on wholesale markets when prices are favourable, independent of site consumption patterns.
The goal: Transform your battery from a cost-saving device into a revenue-generating asset. The combination of bill reduction and market trading creates a compelling return on your battery investment.
Our Approach
We're not starting from scratch. Simtricity's Flux controller already manages batteries at two live community energy sites, trading on wholesale markets through our Axle Energy integration.
Your battery. Our control platform. Direct market access.
Why Simtricity?
Proven Technology
Our Flux controller and Axle integration are already live at two community energy sites, trading real energy on wholesale markets every day.
Fast to Market
We integrate with your existing battery BMS via API or Modbus. No hardware changes needed — just software connection to unlock market access.
Real Revenue Data
We can show you actual market revenues from our existing sites, not theoretical projections. You'll see what battery trading can really deliver.
Project Goals
Live Market Trading
Your 500kW battery actively trading on wholesale electricity markets through Axle Energy, generating real revenue.
